App/Tool: TextExpander
If you want to eliminate repetitive typing, today is your lucky day!
TextExpander is a clever, yet simple concept. Create snippets of text that can be added as you type, using abbreviations that you select.
Here are some of the ways I use this:
- I have a group of all my hashtags. If I want to add a group of hashtags around a certain topic, I simply type ## followed by the category.
For example: typing ##leadership gives me:
#lovableleader #lovableleadership #leadership #leadbyexample #leadfromthefront #leadfromtheback #leadfromahead #leadfrombehind #leadfromthetop #leadfromthebottom #alwayslead - I have a group of all the hex color codes I use for my business. So when I’m on any application that asks me to customize my profile, all of my colors are a shortcut abbreviation away.
- I have shortcuts for all of my Calendly links
- I have shortcuts for all of my social media URLs
But those are all shorter examples. Here are some that REALLY save me time.
- I have entire email templates saved as shortcuts. I simply type semicolon (;) and then an abbreviation like reply or invite
- I have different versions of my bio and read ins. When event organizers or sites with a profile need my info, I simply type ;biolong or ;profilebio
- When I meet people who I want to introduce to others, I save it in TextExpander and then anytime I want to introduce them, I simply type ;meet followed by their name.
There are countless applications for TextExpander. I highly recommend you give it a try and see for yourself how much time you could save and how much frustration you could avoid.
